Flashlight (Or a Headlamp)
You’d be surprised how often moves go into overtime—and that one overhead bulb in the new garage? Not working.
Pro Tip: Keep a flashlight handy for attic checks, late-night unpacking, or peeking into mystery corners. Bonus points for a headlamp so you can work hands-free.
Phone Chargers & Power Strips
Somewhere between unplugging your Wi-Fi and moving the couch, your phone will die. And your partner’s. And your teenager’s.
Pack in the survival kit:
- 1–2 phone chargers
- A long extension cord
- A power strip for charging all at once
Clean Sheets & One Full Bedding Set
After a long moving day, all you want is a shower and a bed. But if your sheets are in a mystery box, it’s either couch cushions or nothing.
What to pack:
- Fitted sheet, flat sheet, pillowcases
- Blanket or comforter
- Pillows!
You’ll thank yourself later.
Toiletries & Towels
ou don’t need a full spa setup, but you do need the basics. Think of this as your travel toiletry bag—plus extras.
Don’t forget:
- Toothbrush & toothpaste
- Soap, shampoo, deodorant
- Toilet paper
- Towels for showering and drying hands
Medications
This one’s a non-negotiable. Whether it’s prescriptions, allergy meds, or daily vitamins, don’t toss them in with the bathroom box.
Pro Tip: Use a clearly labeled pouch or bag you keep with you, not in the truck.
One Change of Clothes (Per Person)
You’d be surprised how easy it is to end up in sweaty, dusty clothes for days. Pack a clean outfit (plus socks and undies) so you’re not digging through boxes in your pajamas.
Snacks & Drinks
Moving day hunger is no joke. Pack easy-to-grab items to avoid the dreaded hangry unpacking spree.
Keep in a cooler or tote:
- Granola bars, trail mix, fruit
- Water bottles, energy drinks
- Something salty and something sweet
Cleaning Supplies
Even new homes need a little TLC before you settle in. Whether it’s wiping out cabinets or a last sweep of the old place, this kit comes in clutch.
Include:
- Paper towels
- Multi-surface cleaner
- Trash bags
- Broom & dustpan
Scissors, Box Cutter & Tape
These tools somehow vanish right when you need them most. Put extras in your survival kit, and avoid the classic “open a box with a house key” struggle.
Important Documents & Keys
Don’t pack these with the office stuff.
- Driver’s license
- Lease or closing papers
- Moving contracts
- Keys, remotes, or garage openers
Keep this all in a folder on you during the move.
Pet & Kid Essentials
If you’ve got little ones (two-legged or four-legged), pack their must-haves separately.
- Favorite toy or blanket
- Snacks or treats
- Diapers, wipes, formula
- Leash and food for pets
Happy kids = smoother move.
Sanity Savers (aka Entertainment)
Whether it’s a Bluetooth speaker, tablet, or deck of cards, having something to pass the time can make a huge difference while waiting on Wi-Fi or cable installs.
Final Pro Tip: Pack This Kit in a CLEAR Bin or Duffle Bag
Make it easy to spot in the chaos. Bonus if you label it: “OPEN FIRST” in big, bold Sharpie letters.
